3 to 6 Months before your wedding
- Check marriage license requirements:
To apply for a marriage license in Minnesota you both must be over 18. The license fee is $70 (it's best to pay with cash, as some counties require 15 working days if you pay by check); no blood test is required; and there is a minimum 5 day waiting period. Your license will be valid in any MN county for 6 months.
Only one party need apply in person. The applicant will be required to complete all information about both applicants (full names, addresses, dates & places of birth); and, the bride's name after marriage. Identification requirements vary in each county. A valid drivers license or certified copy of birth certificate may be requested.
- Call the location where you will apply for more information as each county may have specific requirements.
- Select and discuss your color schemes with the florist/decorator
- Finalize your reception arrangements & reserve all your rental items/equipment
- Order your invitations
- Order mens' formal wear
- Reserve your wedding day transportation
- Select readings & music for ceremony
- Order your cake
- Help both mothers coordinate and choose their wedding attire
- Review contracts with all of your vendors and service providers
- Before You Sign on the Dotted Line...
A handshake is not the same as a signature. All contracts regarding wedding services should be completed in writing, signed and dated by both you and the wedding service vendor or provider, and should include:
- Date and time by which the service is to be completed
- Number of labor hours agreed upon
- The name of a back-up provider
- An overtime fee listing
- Any special arrangements
- The deposit amount, total cost, and the date and amount of balance due
